There are more blue flag beaches in Crete than in the rest of Greece put together. The Villa is in the vicinity of the square marked 12 in the photo below and is surrounded by blue flag beaches.
Karavostasi Beach
This beach is a 2-minute drive / 20-minute walk from the Villa.
By the beach is Maria’s Kantina, a friendly little beach side taverna with local’s prices and a simple but delicious menu.
The beach is stony but the sun loungers are free. The ground is sandy in the water and very pleasant for swimming.
Voulisma Beach / Golden Beach
This beach is a 5-minute drive from the Villa at Istron.
The beach has golden sands with very nice sun loungers and a beach bar.
There are water sports at this beach.
Ammoudara Beach
This is a must visit beach and a 5-minute drive from the Villa.
Beautiful golden sands with spectacular views of Mirabello Bay and the Thripti Mountains.
The sun loungers are free and waiter serviced from the beach bar and there are water sports at this beach.
There is a very nice taverna on the beach.
Almyros Beach
This beach is a 6-minute drive from the Villa. There is a beach bar selling snacks and drinks and you can hire sun beds.
The beach has the largest water sports facilities of any of the local beaches.
Secluded Coves / Beaches
There are a number of secret coves / beaches that can be explored close to the Villa.
Agios Nikolaos Beach
Agios Nikolaos is the main town 10 minutes drive from the Villa.
There are 3 nice beaches with lots of beachfront bars in the town.
Tholos Beach
This beach is 20-minute drive from the Villa.
Tholos beach is reached from Kavousi and is also known as Kavoussi beach.
The beach is formed at the exit of a fertile valley, surrounded by ancient olive groves and vineyards.
The beautiful beach of Tholos is pebbly and sandy on its west side and hosts a small harbour and snack bar.
